What History Alive: Famous Floridians Is

History Alive is the History Center’s rotating family program: themed activity stations, artifact encounters, and guided museum tours built around a different slice of Central Florida history each month. Guests have written poems on a vintage typewriter in the spirit of Eatonville author Zora Neale Hurston, made oil-pastel landscapes after painter Bob Ross, and tested NASA-style “zero gravity” training boxes inspired by Orlando-raised astronaut John Young, who walked on the Moon.

Other editions have shifted the cast. The June 19, 2026, Juneteenth program highlighted Black Floridians through Ray Charles’ ties to Orlando’s South Street Casino and Wells’Built Hotel, a History Center take on The Green Book, and a Mary McLeod Bethune photo-and-timeline activity.
